Sensation management
Certain areas of the face and body are more sensitive than others. Generally electrolysis is manageable without any form of sensation relief. Having received some 230 hours of electrolysis myself without any form of sensation relief, then this is readily achievable.
Much depends upon your mindset when beginning your session. Be prepared for manageable sensation, as often zero sensation is sought by the use of topical anaesthetics. These will reduce sensation, but not remove sensation entirely. Be well rested and well hydrated before your session, as tiredness and dehydration increases our susceptibility to pain.
Topical anaesthetics
Emla numbing cream is possibly the most commonly used product and is available without prescription from many high street pharmacies. If you would like further advice, we advise our clients to consult with their doctor or pharmacist and explain that they will be having electrolysis. These medical professionals will advise on products for sensation / pain management and any associated contraindications.
There are few topical anaesthetics available over the counter, these include, EMLA and LMX-4 These products are 'P' medicines, which means Pharmacy Only Medicine, and should be given under direction of the pharmacist direct to the user, the client.
As part of your treatment record we will ask you to acknowledge that you are using a product which has been prescribed by a medical professional and regulated accordingly.
