Frequently asked questions about electrolysis

FAQ's

How does electrolysis work?

Detailed explanations of all modalities of electroepilation—electrolysis, thermolysis, and blend—and the hair growth cycle are here.

Do you charge for the consultation and test patches?

We provide these free of charge so you can make an informed decision before proceeding. Click here for further details.

What effect does electrolysis have on my skin?

Some temporary redness and localised swelling are common and usually dissipate within 24 to 48 hours. We use insulated probes where only the final third is exposed. This ensures that the reaction occurs well beneath the surface of the skin.

How do I take care of my skin before and after electrolysis?

We provide expert guidance and a curated range of products designed to support your skin at every stage, which are also available to purchase as a boxed set.

Does electrolysis hurt?

In thermolysis, we operate at pulse speeds between 1/100th and 1/1,000th of a second to minimise sensation. We also recommend MHRA-approved numbing creams for more sensitive areas like the upper lip

What equipment is used for electrolysis?

We use state-of-the-art Apilus 27.12 MHz computerised equipment, which provides consistently excellent results. We also use Pro-Tec disposable probes, which are insulated with medical-grade Teflon so that only the final third of the probe is exposed. This design ensures that the reaction occurs well beneath the skin's surface, resulting in minimal surface reactivity.

What hygiene protocols are followed for electrolysis?

We uphold the highest standards of clinical hygiene, utilising medical-grade sterilisation  and a rigorous 'single-use' policy for every treatment.

Facial hair and hormonal changes?

Hormonal shifts alter follicle size, driving facial hair growth. Elevated male hormones (androgens like testosterone and DHT) bind to receptors, triggering a biological change that transforms fine, invisible 'vellus' hairs into thick, coarse 'terminal' hairs.

Once hair reaches the full terminal stage, the change is permanent; blocking androgens or undergoing HRT is unlikely to reduce existing growth. Permanent removal requires destroying the hair's papilla and bulge. Electrolysis offers the perfect long-term solution to manage this unwanted hair, particularly for clients managing PMOS / PCOS.

Do you have off road parking?

We have ample off-road parking, and directions will be forwarded prior to your visit.

Where can I stay for the longer intensive treatments?

We have three Airbnb properties within walking distance, and further options are detailed here.
